The Video Platform Provides Viewers Authority to Limit AI-Generated Content in Personal Streams

TikTok is introducing a fresh option that allows them to cut down on the volume of AI-created videos appearing in their streams. This move comes as the company announced that it currently hosts more than 1 thousand million AI videos.

Pilot Phase and Launch

This change is in a pilot phase over the following weeks before a global release. This advancement coincides with a increase in AI content, spurred by recent AI video creators.

AI Proliferation Online

Recent reports that approximately one in 10 of the quickest rising channels on a competing service primarily display AI-generated videos. A considerable share of this material is considered low-quality AI content, a phrase for substandard, mass-produced content that is often illogical or surreal.

Based on user feedback that a lot of users enjoy content made with AI tools, from digital art to science explainers, and we intend to give people the option to increase or decrease of that, according to their own likes,” stated a spokesperson.

Scale of AI Content

TikTok announced that there are presently over a billion videos on its service tagged as AI-generated. In total, over 100 m media items are submitted to the service each day, making AI content a relatively small portion of its total content library.

Customizing Your Feed

Members will be capable of reduce or increase the volume of AI-generated videos they see by opening the “manage topic” feature in the platform and selecting “AI-generated content”. Other topics that currently be controlled under the setting include politics, style, beauty, and choreography.

Content Labeling and Policies

TikTok’s policies mandate creators to label “realistic” artificially created content, and it forbids malicious deepfakes of public figures or crisis events. Any realistic artificial content that is not labeled can be taken down under its community policies.

In addition, the platform will from now on attach an artificially created tag to content made using its proprietary AI systems, or flagged by an industry-wide initiative for identifying content made by AI. This action is intended to stop users from trying to bypass the tagging system.

Responsible AI Funding

TikTok is also introducing a $2m educational fund for specialists and groups to develop educational content about responsible artificial intelligence. This initiative will benefit educational bodies specializing in educating coding and technology.

Moderation Strategy

The video-sharing app has justified its safety measures, during discussion over plans to make redundant a large number of safety staff in the United Kingdom. The company is set to reduce 439 jobs in its user protection department in its British office, with trade unions and online safety experts expressing worry that humans are being replaced by AI moderation.

A company official clarified that human moderation would still have a role, but AI can shield workers by filtering out the most harmful content prior to it gets reviewed by people. The company announced a significant reduction in disturbing and violent content seen by human moderators over the past year due to the use of its AI tools.

“We think that it’s essential to integrate people and machines to ensure user safety,” the official commented. “We’ll have staff as involved in the system, but we further consider it’s very important to reduce exposure to harmful content as rapidly, which is where a significant AI assistance is really helping us work at speed.”
